DIRECTOR OF INNOVATION & GRANTS

GENERAL PURPOSE

 The Director of Innovation and Grants is responsible for bringing a creative and innovative approach to creating and managing Oak Hill’s Grants Team. This position will prioritize relationship building with internal and external stakeholders, collaboration and idea generation across numerous industries, to support new and enhanced services for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Together with a team of grant writers, the Director of Innovation and Grants will lead the Grants Department in the expansion of resources for Oak Hill.

This innovative approach will maximize support from an array of stakeholders by participating and engaging with leaders in the community and in industry sectors outside of nonprofit healthcare.  The Director of Innovation & Grants is responsible for creating systems to include and engage all internal stakeholders in the grants process. The Grant Department goals are tied directly to the goals and objectives of the agency’s strategic plan and program plans. This position works in collaboration with all levels of the agency and will be required to sit on the twice monthly Senior Leadership Team meetings to engage leadership in an innovative and collaborative approach to resource development that ensures overall funding success.

SUPERVISORY AND OTHER CONTACTS

The Director of Innovation & Grants works under the general direction of the Senior Director of Development, and directly supervises grant writers, ensuring the duties and responsibilities, which they have been assigned, are being carried out efficiently and effectively.

This individual has contact with administration, leadership, employees, board members, parents, donors, funders and the public.

 TARGET OUTCOMES/MEASURES OF SUCCESS

  • Creates and oversees Oak Hill’s Grants Department outlining specific goals and objectives
  • Enhances grants and other revenue streams in an effort to increase the agency’s revenue
  • Creates innovative approach to resource development throughout the organization
  • Stays current on best practices in the field through professional development

 DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develops and manages Oak Hill’s Grants Department, creating strategies to achieve the organization’s goals for grants and resource development.
  • Creates a clearly outlined plan that assigns specific tasks to specific team members which creates a culture of accountability and collaboration and ensures that the team understands Oak Hill’s grants prioritization and process
  • Identifies and executes targeted outreach to key stakeholders, including those in the community and outside of the nonprofit industry
  • Meets with Manager of Engagement and External Communications bi-weekly to communicate the department’s success so that all stakeholders understand the programs that are being funded and the impact these services have on Oak Hill’s participants, students and the broader community
  • Researches and participates in existing brainstorming collaboratives that bring a wide range of industry leaders together to learn best practices
  • Coordinates with Oak Hill’s Administrative and Program Departments to bring them into the grant’s application review, submission and reporting processes in a timely, organized and collaborative way
  • Continually evaluates the Grants Department’s strategies and tactics by monitoring industry best practices, trends, issues, and technologies, and proposes innovative approaches to advance the department goals
  • Partners/collaborates with leadership and other stakeholders to convey Oak Hill’s impact on the community to grantors and other funders
  • Identifies and tracks grant data, and oversees the development of reports to monitor and shape program success
  • Oversees grants to acquire new grants, renew existing grants, report grant progress and communicate any success in funding awards
  • Oversees grant writers in analyzing existing strategies allowing the team to evaluate and develop new strategies if necessary to achieve grant goal
  • Measures the success of the Grants Department and presents informative reports to various internal and external stakeholders (do we want to include presenting to the board?)
  • Works to promote a positive and integrated approach to grants and resource development that celebrates achievements and promotes the collective goals of the organization
  • Monitors and evaluates the performance of the grant writers through regular supervision as it ties to the Department Plan goals and objectives, as well as, providing educational and experiential growth opportunities
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal and professional networking opportunities.
  • Attends outside events or trade organization meetings with clear goals that are tied directly to the Department Plan
  • Partners with colleagues to support Oak Hill’s mission to be a diverse and inclusive organization, and ensuring this value is embedded in the organization and throughout the work of the Development Department
  • Performs other duties, as directed, to enhance the image of, and raise funds for the organization
  • Meets with Database Administrator to review grant success for RE reconciliation

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Minimum of four-year degree and five years of related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Expert knowledge of Grants research, applications, reporting and relationship building  
  • Excellent project and time management skills
  • Knowledge of various grants warehouses and best practices
  • Knowledge of desk top publishing and other publishing platforms (Microsoft Publisher), Word, Microsoft Excel
  • Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or board members.
  • Ability to interact and develop rapport with a broad range of individuals including staff, board, legislators, participants, corporations, civic organizations and more
  • Analytical skills, interpersonal and oral communication skills, excellent writing skills
  • Prioritize work assignments and complete tasks in a timely fashion
